SINCLAIR, Hugh (1885-1942)


Hugh Sinclair was born at Geelong, the son of Rev John Sinclair and Elizabeth nee Hensley.

He became a day student at Geelong College in 1900 with an entry address of Myers St, Geelong.

Hugh served during World War I, however his name is not listed on the Geelong College Great War Memorial Tablet though that of his elder brother John Hensley Sinclair is.

Hugh Sinclair, enlisted as a Private with the 2nd (Victorian) General Service Reinforcements and embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides on 1 May 1918. Hugh Sinclair was posted to 24 Battalion on arrival in England, and returned to Australia, embarking on 22 July 1919.


His brothers, John Hensley Sinclair (1883-1936), and Robert McGregor Sinclair (1888-1977), were also educated at Geelong College.
