SINGER, Brian

Brian Singer.

Brian Singer.

Together with partner Doug Warbrick, Brian Singer founded the international clothing company Rip Curl Pty Ltd in the then small seaside town of Torquay in 1969.

Following the introduction of short board surfboards in Australia from 1967 onwards the partners commenced making surfboards in a backyard shed. They quickly realized that Victoria’s cold water surfing conditions demanded wetsuits and that few manufacturers were marketing to the emerging surfing market. Brian and his partner took over an old house in Torquay in 1970 and the primitive Rip Curl business prospered. Broadening into Surfware the Company became an international business with a worldwide brand.

Brian Singer was educated at Geelong College from 1958 to 1961. His four children, including Samala, were also enrolled at the College.

Brian Singer was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in 2011.
