STANLAKE, Robert John (1883-1972)
Robert John Stanlake was born at Ballarat on 17 March 1883, the son of Robert Stanlake and Christina nee McLeod.
He was a day student at Geelong College, enrolling in 1901 with an address of Garden Street, Geelong.
During World War I, he enlisted (No 3389) in the AIF at Warrnambool on 1 April 1915, then embarked with
HMAT A31 Ajana
on 4th June 1915. He served as a Sergeant with C Section, 6th Field Ambulance on Gallipoli, arriving there on 30 August. He was evacuated with typhoid on 30 November 1915 to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis. He was returned to Australia on
HMT Borda
, embarking on 17 August 1916.
On his return from the war, he married Sophie Margherita Dunne.
He died on 15 June 1972.
His brother, George Gunn Stanlake (1887-1964), was also educated at Geelong College.
