STANLEY, Phoebe Amanda

Phoebe Stanley's rowing career has had almost as many ups and downs as to and fros, but in 2012 she gained a place with the Australian Women’s VIII in their quest for victory at the London OLYMPIC GAMES of 2012. Disappointed at not making the Australian Olympic Team in 2008 and overlooked for the Olympic coxless pairs despite a fast time, she and her valiant teammates rowed so well at Lucerne that they earned a place at the Olympics.

Persistence and ability finally gained Phoebe an opportunity to race against the world as the Stroke of the Australian Women’s coxed VIII at the London Olympics of 2012. The women's VIII overcame many obstacles to reach the finals and in doing so provided one of Australia's uplifting stories of the London Games. They finished sixth in the final.

Phoebe was Captain of the Preparatory School's Helicon House from 1998 to 1999.

Phoebe Stanley was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
