WHITESIDE, Anthony Owen (1938-2023)

Tony was enrolled at the College from 1950 to 1953 after receiving a James Boyd Junior Scholarship. He had previously attended Tate Street primary School. He was a member of Morrison House and served cox in the rowing crews.
Following school, Tony returned to the college to coach rowing for a few years. He studied Civil Engineering at the Gordon and graduated in 1960. He married Judy (dec) in 1959 and they have three children, Andrew (OGC 1973), Tim (OGC 1978) and Amelia.

Whilst working for the Snowy Mountains Authority he was sent to Thailand for a engineering project and by 1973 was stationed in Kuala Lumpur with the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation Asian Office. He later worked as a director of Civil and Civic, and marketing director at Lend Lease.

A keen cyclist, Tony retired from the corporate world in the early 1990s and opened Cyclery Northside with Judy. Cycling also led him to compete in the World Masters Games.

Tony maintained strong links to the College, sending his sons here to board as well as serving as the OGCA NSW Branch President. He attended many Syndey reunions over the years and kept in contact with his school friends.

Tony passed away 30 October 2023, aged 84 years.
