RADCLIFFE, Robert Egerton (1917-1946)


Robert Radcliffe was born on 25 June 1917 and became aday student at Geelong College on 12 September 1933. His entry address was 'Warrain', Eastern Beach, Geelong. He had a tutor prior to attending College. At College he was stroke of the 1st Rowing VIII in 1935 and was a member of the Athletics Team for three years in 1933, 1934, and 1935. He was also a School Prefect in 1935.

Pegasus reported his early death:
'Robert E. Radcliffe was both a pupil and a master at Geelong College. As a boy he was a prefect, a successful scholar and a brilliant sprinter, stroked our 1935 crew and held a commission in the OTC; the first year's activity of the House of Guilds revealed his exceptional artistic gifts. In 1937-38 he was Warden of the House and then spent a year abroad studying art and textiles. He entered the woollen manufacturing business with a special interest in it's colour and pattern aspects and at the time of his death on April 16 (1946) was assistant manager of the Albury Woollen Mills.'
