RICHARDSON, Roy Arthur (1895-1957)
Roy Richardson was born on 10 February 1895, the son of Austin Godfrey Richardson and Laura Amelia nee White.
He was enrolled as a day student at Geelong College in 1909, leaving in 1911. His address at entry was Prospect Rd, Geelong.
During World War I, he enlisted (No. 6572) on 19 July 1916, and embarked on HMAT A71 Nestor on 2 October 1916, and served in France with 5 Battalion. In France, he suffered the effects of a gas attack, as reported in the Geelong Advertiser of 21 October 1918.
He returned to Australia, embarking on 16 January 1919.
The AWM Collection holds a portrait of R A Richardson, one of a series taken on about 10 August 1916 by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War.
His brothers, Lyall Richardson (1896-1963), Ivan Richardson (1903-1980), and Noel Richardson (1904-1972) were also educated at Geelong College.
