ROGERS, Erroll George Graham (1897-1935)


Born on 2 July 1897, Erroll George Graham Rogers was the son of Edwin Rogers and Annie nee Patterson.

He was enrolled as a day student at Geelong College by Miss L B Patterson on 9 February 1914, leaving in December 1915 His address at enrolment was given as 'Nering', Beaufort. Rogers

During World War I, he enlisted (No. 3716) as a Private on 26 November 1916, embarking with 10th Reinforcement Group for 58 Battalion on RMS Ormonde on 7 March 1918. He served in France until the Armistice, then returned to Australia, embarking on 28 August 1919.

Three of his older brothers served in the AIF. L/Cpl Arthur Douglas Rogers with the 1st Machine Gun Battalion; 2nd AM Albert Bruce Rogers with the Australian Flying Corp; and Sgt Edwin Wallace Rogers with 23 Battalion. All returned at war's end. Only Erroll attended Geelong College.

Lismore's Northern Star newspaper reported in 1923 that 'among the six new Victorian barristers and solicitors who were admitted to the Banco Court was Errol George Graham Rogers, a returned soldier who lost a leg at the was and studied law in hospital'
