Catherine Ross, known as 'Riney', who campaigned and fund raised vigorously for cancer research through the charity 'Research4Riney' died at her home 'Leitham' on 24 January 2019, aged 32. A Memorial Service was held at Morrison Hall, Geelong College on 2 March 2019.

Daughter of Russell and Judy, sister of Alex and Claire, Catherine grew up on the family farm at Holbrook, NSW, a place where she would eventually marry, under the ancient branches of a giant gumtree on the banks of Billabong Creek. She entered Geelong College in Year 9 in 2001. A member of Shannon House, she boarded at Mossgiel and participated in a wide range of activities and sports at College.

In 2001, she was a member of the Girls Inter B Tennis Team. The following year she became a member of the Girls Inter A Hockey Team and the Tennis Squad. She then b ecame a member of the Girls 3rd VIII Tennis Team in 2003 and in 2004 the Girls Inter A Tennis Team. She was a member of the 1st Hockey Team in both 2003 and 2004. She performed in the Year 11 Drama Production 'Lysistrata' in 2003 and was awarded the History Prize in 2004. She graduated from Geelong College in 2004.

Following College, she studied Political Science and Developmental studies at Melbourne University before completing a Diploma of Education in 2010. After a further two years, living in London and travelling in Europe and the Middle East, she returned to Melbourne in 2013 before moving to Birregurra three years later.

The College placed a tribute to Catherine: The Geelong College mourns the sad loss of Catherine Ross. Our deepest sympathies to her husband Jamie Bell (OGC 2000), her parents Russell and Judy, and her sister Claire (OGC 2006). Catherine was much loved in our boarding community and will be sadly missed.
