SEFTON, Dr Daryl Ralph (1927-2016)
Dr Daryl Ralph Sefton, veterinarian and wine maker, became a day student at College from 12 February 1936 to December 1944 after attendance at North Geelong State School. In 1944 he was secretary of the Debating Society, member of the Athletics Committee and a member of the 4th Rowing VIII. In 1942 he had been in the Relay Team.
Daryl was the foundation president of the Geelong Winegrowers’ Association from 1974 to 1993 and a former Board Member of the Victorian Wine Industry Association. In 1998 he and his wife Nini were awarded a Victorian Wine Industry Association Award for their contribution to the renaissance of the Geelong Wine Region and that of the state industry as a whole. They sold their business, Idyll Wines in 1999 after 33 years of winemaking. Daryl died on 21 November 2016. His brother, Russell (1938-2013), OGC 1951, was also educated at College.
