SKEWES, Richard (1846-1926)
Richard Skewes is alleged to have been educated at Geelong College in 1861. As no enrolment records have survived from the period 1861-1870, his attendance remains unverified. Richard was born on 20 April 1846 to parents Thomas and Jane Skewes.
His death was reported by Pegasus in May 1926: ‘Richard Skewes, late of Warragul, passed away after a brief illness on the 5th of May from pneumonia. Richard, better known to every Old Collegian as ‘Dick’ Skewes, was always yery proud of having been one of the first boys to enter the original College in Skene Street, known as ‘Knowle House’, under the late George Morrison in 1861.
For many years past he had made a practice of visiting his old school several times annually, and these visits, though for perhaps only a few minutes, have been greatly appreciated by all associated with the College and its Old Boys' Association.
