STOTT, Norman Trevor (1899-1927)


Norman Trevor Stott was born on 29 May 1899, the son of Sadoc Jesse Stott and Margaret nee Richards.

After attending Ashby State School, he became a day student at Geelong College on 10 February 1913, leaving in December 1914. His address at enrolment was 80 Clarence St, Geelong West.

He was working as a tailor when, during World War I, he enlisted (No. 7559) in the AIF on 29 May 1917. He embarked wHh the 25th Reinforcement Group on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 4 August 1917 for England, arriving at Glasgow on 2 October, and was then at the 1st Training Battalion, Sutton Veny. He injured his left ankle and spent time in Sutton Veny Military Hospital in January 1918, then embarked for France on 27 May, joining 5 Battalion on 7 June. He served through the campaigns of the last months of the war before he returned to Australia on HMT Persic, embarking on 13 July 1919.

He lost a cousin during the Great War, Corporal Claude Arnott Stott of Geelong, 2 Battalion, who on 21 September 1918 died of wounds suffered in the final attack on the Hindenburg Line, and is buried in Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension, France, Grave I.E.8.
