STRINGER, Henry Herbert (1899-1958)
Henry Herbert Stringer was born on 10 February 1899, the son of Henry Stringer and Annie nee Munro.
He attended Swanston State School before his enrolment at Geelong College on 10 February 1914. He left in December 1915. His address at enrolment was Ryrie St, Geelong.
He enlisted (No.80372) at Melbourne during World War I on 24 September 1918. At the time he was a junior clerk in a private firm. He cited his father, Henry Stringer of 246 Ryrie St, Geelong as his 'next of kin' and that he had been in the Cadets for 4 years. His medical examination described him as 19 years 7 months old, 5ft 7 1/2 inches in height and 129 pounds with a fresh complexion, brown eyes and black hair. He was sent to Broadmeadows for training to join 22nd Reinforcements from 30 September 1918 but was discharged as a result of demobilization on 24 December 1918. He contracted influenza while in the Broadmeadows Army Camp.
He is listed as 'Stringer, H. H.' on the Geelong College Great War Memorial Tablet.
