SUFFIELD, Arthur Frederick (1890-1943)


Arthur Suffield was born on 7 December 1890, the son of Frederick George Suffield and Amelia Amy nee Witney.

He entered Geelong College as a day student in 1906. His address at the time was 15 Sydney St, East Geelong.

During World War I, he enlisted (No. 4548) as a Private in the AIF on 12 July 1915, embarking on HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 March 1916 for Egypt, then France. He served with 22 Battalion in the campaigns on the Western Front. He returned to Australia, embarking on 6 June 1918.

He died on 4 November 1943. His death notice was published in the Argus newspaper in November 1943:
'On November 4 at the Repatriation Hospital, Caulfield, Arthur Frederick, dearly loved husband of Lalla, of 123 Finch street, Glen Iris, loving father of Audrey, Sheila (Mrs. F. E. Reed), and Fred, aged 52 years, late 22nd Batt. First A.I.F.- An Anzac.'
