TAIT, Rev Lithgow (1851-1936)


Lithgow Tait, born on 15 June 1851 at Geelong, was enrolled at Geelong College. No enrolment Register is held for the period 1861-1870 but Lithgow Tait appears in the 1865, 1866 and 1868 prize lists. He had previously attended Geelong Grammar School 1858-1859, 1863 and Scotch College from 26 January 1864.

Pegasus in October 1936 recorded his death: 'Lithgow Tait (1868), died at his home in Campbell Road, Deepdene, on Thursday, 1 October. Son of the late Rev John Tait, of Geelong, he matriculated and was Dux of the College in 1868, Bachelor of Arts at the Melbourne University, later taking theology at the New College, Edinburgh. Since leaving the Theological Hall, Melbourne in 1877, he filled many positions, including Maffra and Kyneton.'
