Phipps Thomas Robert Turnbull was born on 12 September 1950, the son of grazier, Alexander Robert Turnbull, OGC 1938. He was enrolled at Geelong College on 13 February 1964 and left in December 1968. His address at enrolment was 'Fairy Knowe', Tallangatta, Victoria. At College, he was a member of the 2nd Rowing VIII and 2nd Football XVIII in 1967, moving on to the 1st Rowing VIII and 1st Football XVIII in 1968. He was also a member of the College Cadet Corps and Warrinn House.
Phipps Turnbull died on 10 January 2009.
