VIVIAN, Richard Herbert (1855-1917)


Richard Vivian died suddenly at his home in Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn. Known as Herbert, he was the son of Samuel Coad Vivian (c.1831-1885) and Esther nee Pinn (c.1828-1910), originally of Geelong, and was educated at the College from 1866 until 1871. In 1866, he was awarded second prize in the Second Class for elocution.

For 30 years he was the manager of the National Bank, Hawthorn and was associated with many community activities in the Hawthorn district. He was involved in amateur theatre and was a founding member of the Victorian Croquet Association of which he became honorary secretary. He was also an honorary treasurer of both the Glenferrie Hill Recreation Club and All Saints’ Church, Kooyong. His brother, Hugh Henry (1860-1904) attended the College in at least 1871.
