WISHART, Robert Henry Scott (1927-2016)


Robert Wishart, grazier, died at Estia Health, Bannockburn on 26 April 2016, aged 88 years. For many years he had been in partnership in the family farming and grazing business 'R H S & A R Wishart' at 'Burnbrae' Inverleigh.

'Rob' attended Inverleigh State School before his enrolment at Geelong College as a day student on 15 February 1940. He left in December 1944. The elder son of 'Leigh' and Margaret Wishart, he was born on 2 November 1927. After leaving College he studied wool classing at the Gordon Technical College, Geelong. He married Betty Longmore from Bannockburn at St George's Church, Geelong in 1954.

He was well-known in Inverleigh as Hall Committee Member of 50 years, Hall Secretary for 35 years and the organiser of dances and balls across the district at Inverleigh, Cressy and Modewarre. Though perhaps too young to join the senior sports teams at Geelong College, he later became a stalwart ruckman for the Inverleigh Football Club as well as playing for the Inverleigh Cricket Club for 40 seasons, and President and Life Member. He also became a foundation member of the Inverleigh Bowls Club, Club Champion in 2004/5, Secretary and Life Member. He was also Secretary and Treasurer of the Inverleigh sporting Complex (Victoria Park).

His brother, Douglas Ardill Costain Wishart (1928-2012), and son, Alan Wishart, OGC 1973 were also educated at Geelong College.
