ROYCE, Peter

Associate Professor Peter Royce (OGC 1968) is a leading Australian Urology Surgeon whose career has spanned clinical excellence, surgical innovation, and medical education. With over four decades of experience, Royce has made significant contributions to the treatment of prostate cancer and the advancement of Urological surgery in Australia and abroad.

Royce graduated MB BS Monash University in 1978, trained in surgery and Urology in Melbourne, and was awarded his FRACS (Urology) in 1986. He completed postgraduate training as a Clinical Fellow in Urology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons in 1993. His clinical expertise includes radical prostatectomy (open and robotic), prostate brachytherapy, and high-intensity focused ultrasound, positioning him at the forefront of prostate cancer treatment.

As Director of Urology at The Alfred Hospital from 2008 until his retirement in 2024, Royce co-founded the Alfred Brachytherapy Prostate Cancer Clinic and played a pivotal role in securing the da Vinci surgical robot, later named ‘Royce’ in his honour. He also served as Senior Consultant Urologist at Cabrini Private Hospitals in Malvern and Brighton, and continues to practice at Cabrini Medical Centre.

Royce is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Monash University, where he contributes to medical education and research. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented at scientific forums globally. His contributions to training Malaysian Urologists earned him Honorary Membership of the Malaysian Urological Association, and he is also a member of the European Association of Urology.

His work with the Urology Society of Australia and New Zealand and Healthy Male, reflects his commitment to advancing Urological education and improving health outcomes for men.

At The Geelong College, Royce (1961 to 1972) served as McArthur House Prefect in his final year. His time at the College helped shape the leadership and discipline that would define his distinguished medical career.

Royce was inducted into the OGCA Notables Gallery in 2025.
