WADE, Darrell Andrew
Darrell Wade (OGC 1978) is a visionary entrepreneur and global leader in sustainable travel and social enterprise. As co-founder of Intrepid Travel in 1989, Wade helped pioneer a new model of tourism - one that prioritised immersive experiences, low environmental impact, and meaningful contributions to the communities visited. Under his leadership, Intrepid grew into one of the world’s largest adventure travel companies, setting industry standards for ethical and responsible tourism.
Wade currently serves as Chair of the Intrepid Travel Foundation, which raises funds for global community initiatives, and is also Chair of the Dawn Wade Foundation, supporting local causes. From 2019-2023, Wade was Vice Chair of the peak industry body, World Travel and Tourism Council. He spent two years as Chair of Travalyst, the tourism sustainability initiative established by Prince Harry.
In addition to his work in travel, Wade is a co-founder of Skalata Ventures, Australia’s first fully integrated seed investment program, launched in 2018 to support early-stage companies in scaling sustainably. He is a founding member of the MAP Advisory Board and sits on the Executive Committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council, contributing to global policy and innovation in tourism.
Wade’s influence spans business, philanthropy, and environmental stewardship. He is the director of Good Cycles, a social enterprise focused on employment and mobility solutions. He has served on the boards of several non-profits and government organisations, including Parks Victoria, and continues to advocate for responsible business practices and community engagement.
His entrepreneurial journey reflects a deep belief in using business as a force for good - empowering people, protecting the planet, and creating lasting change through travel and investment.
At The Geelong College (1971 to 1978), Wade participated in sports including tennis and football. His time at the College helped foster the curiosity and values that would later shape his career in global leadership and social entrepreneurship.
Wade was guest speaker at the College's Speech Day Award Ceremony in 2010, and in 2025 was inducted into the OGCA Notables Gallery.
