Colin Abery (Prefect, 1954)

Dr Colin Abery, medical practitioner, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in June 2010, for service to the community through contributions to the advocacy and promotion of bowel cancer screening programs in June 2010.

He attended the College from 1948 to 1954 and represented the College in the 1st Football XVIII in 1953 and 1954. He was also a School Prefect in 1954. After studying at the University of Melbourne Dr Abery practised in Hamilton from 1965 to 1978 and Belmont from 1978 to 1994 and was the College doctor for a considerable time, as well as working with Deakin University Health Services. He has held a diverse range of positions including as Senior Medical Registrar at Prince Henry’s Hospital, as an Associate at the Young People’s Medical Centre in Geelong and as a Director of Glastonbury Child and Family Services.
