ASCHE, John Frederick William (1860-1923)
John Asche, the son of the Oslo born Thomas Asche (1826-1898) and his first wife, Jane Weir who married in Victoria on 17 August 1855, was enrolled at Geelong College on 28 January 1875. He had previously attended Geelong Grammar School from 30 January 1871 to 1874.
He married Lucy Rebecca Wilson (1864-1950), daughter of Henry Parl Wilson (1825-1894) and Lucy Rebecca Short (1838-1867) on 3 June 1891. She had been born at Dunedin, New Zealand and together they would have at least three children.
He died at Longreach, Queensland.
John's father, Thomas married Harriet Emma Trear (1840-1912) in 1866 after the death of his first wife and had at least 5 more children. Among them was John Stanger Heiss Oscar Asche (1871-1936), born at Geelong on 4 January 1871 who became an internationally known actor and producer in London and Australia. He studied in Norway and London and toured Australia three times producing the well-known 'Maid of the Mountains and Chu-Chin-Chow'. Unlike his half-br p125other, John, he was educated at Laurel Lodge, Dandenong and Melbourne Grammar School.
