Geoff was born to Lyn and Alice Barber of Sylvanham, Merriwagga in NSW. Coming from Hay High School, Geoff was enrolled as a boarder at The Geelong College in 1950, starting in Form I. During his time at College, Geoff was involved in rowing, the PFA and cadets. He received House Rowing Colours in 1953 and 1954. Geoff rowed in the 1st VIII crew in 1954 receiving School Rowing Colours and Cap that year. He reached the rank of sergeant in the cadets, was vice captain of Shannon and a School Prefect in 1954.

Geoff was also part of the Exploration Society’s central Australia expedition in 1954 (see Pegasus June 1954). Along with remaining school friends and their partners, he and his wife Pat travelled to Uluru for a reunion in 2004 (see Ad Astra January 2004). Geoff also continued to support the school throughout his life and maintained his connections through reunions and other events.

Following his schooling, Geoff returned to Merriwagga to the family property. Geoff’s father Lyn was an old collegian (OGC 1915) and his son Ian also attend the College (OGC (1984).

Geoff passed away 6 June 2021, aged 85 years.
