BARNFATHER, Pauline Rai (1917-2014)


Pauline R Barnfather was first employed at Geelong College as a secretarial assistant to the Executive Officer of the Old Geelong Collegians’ Association in January 1967. A year later in January, 1968 she was appointed as the assistant to the Vice-Principal of Geelong College, a position she held until her retirement in January 1977. Between 1977 and 1981 she volunteered each week in the George Morrison Memorial Library.

Prior to her work with Geelong College she had been employed at Godfrey Hirst & Co where she started work straight from school. She had been a secretarial assistant to the Managing Director, C L Hirst but moved to College after his retirement.

Pauline was the daughter of Old Collegian, Thomas Stanley Barnfather (1888-1955) and Ruby Alice nee Beatty (1888-1959) and was born at Geelong on 2 March 1917. Pauline died on 16 September 2014. Her brother, Eliot, was killed during World War II.
