BARTLETT’S PADDOCK
In 1908, Norman Morrison purchased Bartlett’s paddock a block then adjoining the School property and facing Claremont Ave. In 1909, this was ploughed and levelled and 'the obnoxious box-thorn hedge removed.’ It appears that a second Bartlett’s block was also subsequently purchased. The Council Minutes of 1920 noted that, after several attempts, J Bartlett’s land on Claremont Avenue with a frontage of 100 feet was purchased for £200. The report noted that it would make a fine new sports ground for the new Preparatory School. The two intervening blocks between the original Bartlett’s block and Warrinn were eventually purchased in the early 1950s. A School rifle range was established for a time in this area.
