William Charles Baud, Chief Librarian of the Melbourne Public Library from 1944 to 1945 was born at Nagambie to parents William Samuel Baud and Mary Ann, nee Miller on 2 November 1890 and attended Geelong College from 1908 to 1910.

His Enrolment Register entry of 1908 lists his surname incorrectly as 'Band'.

He was a successful scholarship student, a member of the Debating Society, a Cadet Corps Lance Corporal and a member of the 1st Football XVIII in 1909 and its vice-captain in 1910. Pegasus in 1910 reported that Baud ‘has been the most consistently good player for the year. He has been a tower of strength on the half-back line... speedy, vigorous, and unusually certain,’.

He attended the University of Melbourne graduating BA and soon after joining the Melbourne Public Library. His sudden death occurred at a Rostrum Club lunch in October 1945.
