BELCHER, Joseph William (1858-1946)


Joseph Belcher, born on 4 November 1858, was enrolled at Geelong College on 13 July 1874 as a day student.

He gained the following academic awards:
1874, 2nd, Reading, 1st Class.
1875, Writing (Noted as 'Great Improvement')
1875, 3rd, Gymnastics, 2nd Class.
1875, 2nd, Drawing, 2nd Class.
1876, 3rd, Writing, 3rd Class.
1876, 2nd, Drawing, 2nd Class.

Pegasus in 1946 noted: 'Joseph William Belcher passed away on March 19 (1946), in his 88th year. Though a resident of Melbourne, he was a frequent visitor to Geelong and always maintained interest in the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, of which he was the oldest member.'
