BOAG, Claude Charles (1897-1962)
Claud Boag was born 17 October 1897, the son of James Boag and Elizabeth nee Edwards of Strath Esk, Launceston and one of 9 children.
His father, James Boag (1854-1919), and grandfather, James Boag (c1822-1890), were the founders of J Boag & Son which was established in 1893 and became the dominant brewery in the northern half of Tasmania. His brother, James Boag, was to manage the brewery.
Claude Boag was first educated at Launceston Grammar School from 1909 until 1911, and then Geelong College from 1912 until 1915 representing the College in the 1st Football XVIII in 1914. He served in the Cadets at College for 2 years.
During World War I, he attempted to enlist in the AIF on 14 September 1915, writing in his attestation paper that he had 'just left school', but was rejected due to his young age. He then served for four years with the University of Melbourne Rifles.
He died at Sandy Bay, Tasmania on 8 July 1962.
