BOAT SHED

BOAT SHED

College Boat Sheds and Boats on the Barwon River, circa 1908.

College Boat Sheds and Boats on the Barwon River, circa 1908.

The original boat shed (possibly built in 1903) stood on the north bank of the Barwon River not far from the starting position of the Head of the River (of 1952) until 1921.

The College Council agreed to sell the adjoining land of about 2 acres and move the shed to the current location on the Barwon Rowing Club Reserve at a rental of £1 per annum on the recommendation of Francis Rolland. R Renshaw won the contract to move the shed to the Harbour Trust Rowing Reserve for £325. This original boat shed was in poor condition by 1932 and was demolished. The builder H R Leach won the tender with his bid of £494-11-0 to rebuild the boatshed under the overall supervision of the then College carpenter, Percy Carter, which occurred in 1933.

The current boat shed, replacing the earlier shed, was built in 1995 and opened on 3 February 1996 by Robert Purnell.
