BRETT, Dr Percy Gore (1879-1968)Percy Gore Brett was born on 20 September 1879 at Beechworth and was enrolled by Mrs Oakes at Geelong College on 17 September 1891. Charles Herbert Somervail was also enrolled by Mrs Oakes that same day. Mrs Oakes was probably Maria Druce Young (c1937-?) who had married Montague Cosby Oakes. Percy's address at enrolment was Portarlington, Victoria. At College he became a member of the 1st Football XVIII in 1896 and 1897 as well as the 1st Cricket XI of 1897. He was also a member of the 1st Tennis IV of 1897. He beame President of the OGCA in 1934/35.

He was the son of William Gore Brett (1834-1928) and his wife, Octavia Helen nee Young (1851-1937). Percy's father had first married Martha Young (-1869) in 1859. Following her early death he married her younger sister, Octavia in 1871.
Percy Gore Brett was described in the 1915 edition of the Australasian Medical Directory as follows:
'Brett, Percy gore, Toorak, Melbourne, Vic - M.B. (Melb), 1903; Ch.B. (Melb), 1904; Resident Surgeon, Warrnambool Hospital and Benevolent Asylum, 1904; Resident Surgeon Children's Hospital, Melbourne, 1904-1907; Honoray Clinical Assistant to Honorary Outdoor Staff at Children's Hospital, Melbourne; Honorary Medical Officer to Melbourne Deaf and Dumb Institution; Honorary Physician to Out-patients at St Vincent's Hosptal. Melbourne. B.M.A.' Melbourne Punch in 1911 announced his marriage:
'The marriage of. Dr. Percy Brett, of Power-street, Hawthorn, and Miss Amy Isabel Young, (1879-1957) eldest daughter of Mr Thomas Young of "Sunnyside," Horsham, was celebrated at the Cairns Memorial Church, East Melbourne, on 12 October, and afterwards at Menzies' (Hotel)' The couple had three children, Stewart, Elsie and Mac.
He died, aged 89 years, on 5 December 1968. His wife, Amy Isabel Brett died 20 August 1952.
His nephew, Richard Carlington Brett (1912-1933), son of Arthur Adderley Brett, a former Scotch College (Melb) student was also educated at Geelong College.
