BROTCHIE, Paul William (1936-2023)

Paul was enrolled at the College from 1949 and completed his matriculation in 1953. He had previously attended Bendigo High School and was the recipient of a James Boyd Junior entrance Scholarship and James Boyd Scholarship whilst attending the school. Throughout his life, Paul remained grateful for the opportunity to attend the school thanks to generous benefactors.

An academic student, Paul was often one of the high achievers of his class, including in Form IV when he placed second behind the Dux. He was in the cadets and rose from a corporal to a sergeant in 1953. He was also a member of the Library Committee 1952. Paul also rowed in the 2nd VIII in 1953 and the 3rd XVIII football team. When Paul completed his matriculation he multiple subject honours.

Following school, Paul went onto study Law at Melbourne University, resident at Ormond College. He became a successful lawyer, specialising in owners corporations. After 50 years of legal practice, Paul retired in 2009.

Outside of his law practice, Paul was a trustee of the Stafford Fox Medical Research Foundation which fosters the development of early career researchers and post-doctoral fellowships in medical science. He was also enjoyed cycling and was a committed Anglican.

Paul passed away 23 November 2023, aged 87. He is survived by his wife Susan, four children, two step-children and eight grandchildren.
