BRUNTON, Alan John (1929-2018)

Alan John Brunton was born on the 17 March 1929.

He attended Bannongil State School before moving as a boarder into Mackie House at Geelong College from 1 March 1941 to December 1943.

After leaving school, he attended the Gordon Institute of Technology completing a wool-classing course in 1945. He then returned to the family farm doing some local wool classing.

In 1951, he married and took over the running of the family farm, which he continued until in 1999, when he handed over operations to his son Steven.

Alan was involved in the local CFA fire brigade and was radio operator for 22 years. He was also President of the Vite Vite North Hall for several years, including running the 'Back to Vite Vite' celebration in 1973, and a Life member of the Derrinallum Bowls Club. In 1982, Alan was sworn in as a Justice of the Peace, retiring from that position in 2009.

Caravanning was one of his passions, completing 3 trips around Australia with his wife Rosemary. A keen Geelong Football Club supporter in the 1960s, he attended many games and was one of the first supporters to join the GFC Social Club.

Alan, age 89 years, died at the Geoffrey Cutter Centre, Ballarat East on 24 June 2018 after a battle with vascular dementia.

His son, Steven Brunton, was also educated at Geelong College.
