CALVERT, Edmund Robert (1897-1966)
Edmund Robert Calvert was born on the 21 February 1897 at Nar Nar Goon, Victoria the son of Russell Pirron Calvert and Lilly nee Hayes, of Trevlac, Drouin, Victoria.
He is aleged to have attended Geelong College but there is no enrolment record for him.
He belonged to the Port Melbourne Naval Cadets for two years before enlisting (No 88) during World War I at the age of 18 years on 17 July 1915, originally being attached to the 29th Battalion (B Company), Machine Gun Section. He embarked for Egypt on HMAT A11 Ascanius on 10 November 1915, as a Private, where he was transferred to 8 Machine Gun Company in 1916 and served as a driver. He suffered synovitis in both knees, was invalided to Australia on HMT Seang Choon on 17 July 1916, and discharged on 12 February 1917. He died in 1966.
