Neil Campbell, born on 8 August 1859, was enrolled as a day student at Geelong College on 29 January 1872. His address, as listed in the annual report awards, was 'Melaleuca', Connewarre.
He gained the following academic awards at Geelong College.
1872, 1st, Scripture, 1st Class.
1873, 2nd, Arithmetic, 2nd Class.
1876, 3rd, Algebra, 2nd Class.
His death was reported in
Pegasus.
'Neil Campbell, businessman, local government councillor and benefactor, who died suddenly at Geelong on 3 August 1939 was enrolled at the College in 1872. On leaving school he devoted his attention to the study of wool production in several states. After some business experience he set up in Geelong as a stock and station agent and enjoyed a high reputation as a sheep expert. For many years he was identified with public activities in Geelong, was Mayor of the City of Geelong in 1903 and 1904 and well known in polo, racing and golf circles. The OGCA owed a great deal to Neil Campbell. He was one of its founders in 1900 and filled various offices, being particularly active in the period following the death of Norman Morrison, when Stanley Calvert was laid aside by ill-health and the future of the Association was in doubt. For a number of years he was a member of the College council.' His brother,
Archibald George Campbell (1862-1946), was also educated at Geelong College.
His son,
Neil Leslie Campbell (1893-1915), was also educated at Geelong College.
