CARR, Greville Gattie (1898-1958)
Greville Gattie Carr was born on the 10 April 1898, the son of Reverend Greville Gattie Carr and Ada Janet nee King. He was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College from Moolamon Station, Moulamein, New South Wales from 1909 to 1915. At Geelong College, he was Cox of the 1st VIII in 1911 and 1912, then rowed in the Crew in his last year, 1915. In 1915 he was also a member of the Tennis Committee and the 1st Football XVIII. At the time of his departure he was in Form Upper V.
He served with the Senior Cadets for 4 years and was still serving when he enlisted. He entered camp on 12 July 1916 as a Private, and trained as a gunner witht the F A Brigade, (Recruits Battalion) but was discharged medically unfit 170 days later, on 28 November that year. He was described as being of good conduct and character on discharge.
Pegasus in June 1959 recorded his obituary:
'Greville Gattie Carr died at Airey's Inlet on December 21. He was a pupil at the College from 1909 to 1915, when he rowed in the first crew. He served in the 1914-1918 war, and afterwards engaged in pastoral pursuits in various parts of Australia.'
