CARR, John William OAM


For his service to the community, John Carr (OGC 1954) was honoured in the Queen's Birthday Awards of June 2017 with the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia 'for service to rural health, and to the community of Rokewood.'

Hesse Rural Health:
President and Chair, 2003-2017. Board Member, since 1994.
Inaugural Chair, Leigh Community Care, 1975-1985 and Board Member, 1975-1994.

Country Fire Authority Victoria: - Rokewood Fire Brigade: Past Captain, 2 years.
Past 1st Lieutenant, 4 years. Past 2nd Lieutenant, 2 years. Past 3rd Lieutenant, 2 years. Past 4th Lieutenant, 4 years. Past Secretary, 6 years.
Volunteer, since 1958.

Landcare:
Executive Committee Member, Woady Yaloak Catchment Group, since 1994; Chair, Finance Committee; Recipient, Quiet Achievers Award, 2013.
Founding Member, Landcare Rokewood, late 1980s.

Rokewood Uniting Church:
Member, Regional Council, current; Past Chairman. Treasurer, current.
Organist, 'for more than 50 years'.

Other service includes:
President, Leigh Shire Council, 1968 and Member of Council 1963-1976 and 1988-1991. Chairman, Rokewood Recreation Reserve Committee, 1967-1985 and Member, 1967-1989. Member, Corangamite Catchment and Land Protection Board, 1995-1997.
Member, Ballarat Water Board, 1988-1991.
