Ken Clayton, staff member was a member of the Senior School teaching staff with Geelong College from January 1959 to December 1962. He was an Assistant House Master at Mackie, taught Science, and briefly taught in 1962 at the Preparatory School. Born on 22 March 1935, he attended Scotch College, Melbourne from 1942 to 1954.
Pegasus in June 1959 noted that:
'Mr Clayton came to us from Haileybury College and Mercer House, and has quickly moulded himself into the House.' He left College for a position at Scotch College, Perth, WA and it was in Westen Australia that he completed his BSc in 1966. In early 1967 he took a temporary position with the Victorian Education Department and later, taught in England.
Ken returned to Scotch College, Melbourne to teach in 1973. An obituary notice placed by Scotch College, Melbourne described his service at Scotch:
'Ken taught geology, biology and science. He was a long-serving Scout Group Quartermaster, and Scotch at Cowes staff member. From 1977 Ken was Housemaster of McMeckan House and in 1988 became Senior Boarding Housemaster. As Registrar from 1989 until retiring in 1994, Ken's deep knowledge of Scotch made him an excellent ambassador.' Ken donated a large collection of correspondence that he had recieved while living in Western Australia from Geelong College Mackie Boarding House Master, John Carrington which describes events and people at Geelong College. This correspondence remains subject to restricted access due to privacy considerations.
Ken died on 11 June 2017.
