CUTTS, William Charles (1893-1971)
William 'Charlie' Cutts was enrolled at Geelong College in 1908 continuing at College through 1909. His entry address was Barwon Crescent, Geelong. After leaving school he worked as a farmer.
He was born at Warracknabeal on 25 March 1893, the son of William Charles Cutts and Sarah Chandler nee Currie.
During World War I, after enlisting (No 13275) in the AIF on 29 July 1915, he embarked for Egypt on HMAT A63 Karoola on 7 March 1916, and then France on 13 June 1916. He took leave to Paris in January 1918, and England in September.
The Australian War Memorial (AWM) Photographic Collection holds a group portrait of the 12th Australian Field Ambulance, including Private W C Cutts, taken at the back of St Josephs Convent, Bailleul, France on 11 March 1918, one day prior to the commencement of the heavy bombardment of Bailleul by the enemy. He returned to Australia on duty as Nursing Staff on HMT Port Denison, embarking on 25 March 1919.
He died on 15 April 1971.
His brother, Eric Vincent Cutts (1897-1915) was also a day student at College.
