DICKSON, James Rea (1894-1984)
Rea Dickson, musician and composer, was the pianist for the Community singing sessions during the 1920s to the 1930s which were then the main institutional music activity in the School. He also published the music for the College Song, ‘The School on the Hill’ .
Rea operated a music store in Geelong at several locations over the years including Ryrie St. He was Secretary of the Australian Music Examination Board (Geelong), a member of Rotary for fifty-eight years and a member of the Geelong Association for Music and Art Orchestra of which he was the librarian and tympani player. He also provided musical accompaniment for ABC artists in Geelong. He was born at Richmond in 1894 and married Mabel Louisa nee Herd. He died on 26 May, 1984 at Geelong. His son, Robert attended the School.
