Peter Doak, Olympic freestyle swimmer, has continued his swimming career throughout his life both as a sportsman and a volunteer administrator. was a day student of the Geelong College from 1955 to 1960. He had previously attended North Geelong State School. At College he was a member of the swimming team from 1958-1960 becoming a member of Shannon House. After leaving school at the end of his Form V year, he joined the Geelong based accounting firm Day, Neilson, Jenkins and Johns but not long after was selected for the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth where he, as a member of the 4x110 yard freestyle swimming team, broke the then world record.

Selection for the 1964 Tokyo OLYMPIC GAMES followed and at these Games the freestyle team won the Bronze Medal. For eleven years he was the Victorian Swimming Team Captain. In 1967, Peter became Australian 110 yards Freestyle Champion, though not satisfied with this he broadened his scope to surf sports and became the Australian Belt Champion. He was also the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal on 23 June, 2000. Peter Doak opened the Geelong College Recreation Centre in 1999.

In the Australia Day Honours of 2014, he was awarded a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia 'for service to sport, and to the community of Geelong' . The following is the summary at the time of that award:

Bronze Medallist, 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.
Gold Medallist and World Record Holder, 4 x 110 yards Freestyle Relay, Perth 1962 Commonwealth Games.
1st place, 100m Freestyle, Australian Swimming Titles, 1967.
Captain, Victorian State Swimming Team, for 8 years; Member, for 11 years.
Life Member, Geelong Swimming Club.
Coach, Learn to Swim Classes, Kardinia Park Pool, for 26 years.
Member, Torquay Surf Life Saving Club, for 26 years.
Member, Victorian Surf Life Saving Team, for 5 years.
Member, Australian Surf Life Saving Team, South Africa, 1969.
1st Place, Senior Surf Belt Race, Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, 1967.
First Victorian to win the Australian Individual Open Surf Life Saving Title.
Board Member, DoCare Geelong Co-operative Ltd, since 2009.

Peter Doak was inducted into the Old Geelong Collegians' Association (OGCA) Notables Gallery at Geelong College in October 2014.
