FALCONER, John Boyd (1929-2022)

FALCONER, John Boyd (1929-2022)

John Falconer was born in 1929 to Herbert Wilmott and Edna Lyall Falconer. He was educated at Geelong High School before attending The Geelong College from 1943, starting in Form IA.

John was a talented sportsman, joining the 1st Cricket and Football teams in 1946. A skilled wicket keeper, he was part of the 1946 cricket premiership team, captained by M. J. Woodward. Coach Ken Nicolson reported in the ‘Pegasus’, “With the exception of the Xavier match when he was suffering from bruised hands, Falconer's wicket-keeping was of a high standard. His work was unobtrusive, but neat and effective.”

John was awarded Warrinn House and School Football Colours in 1946. He also received Cricket Cap, Honours and Colours that same year.

John’s brothers also attended the College; David (OGC 1944), Bob (OGC 1947) and Peter (OGC 1952).

Following school, John would go on to work in the wool industry for over 50 years, both in Geelong and Portland. He was well respected in this field and in his local community.

John married Bev (MOC) and they have three children, and four grandchildren.

John passed away 23 June 2022, aged 93 years.
