FENTON, David Trevor Hamilton (1896-1944)David Trevor Hamilton Fenton was born on 23 December 1896, the son of John Fenton and Helen nee Laidlaw. of Lantana, Hamilton. He was educated at Hamilton and Western District College, and then at Geelong College where he was enrolled on 10 February 1913. His address at entry was 'Lantana', Hamilton. He was in the 1st XVIII, 1st XI and Athletics team in 1914. David left College in December 1914.
At the time of the World War I Armistice, he was training with the Flying Squadron at Point Cook, holding the rank of Second Corporal, thus did not embark for overseas service.
His brother,
John Wilfred Fenton MM (1893-1917), died of wounds on 19 June 1918, after a gas attack at Ribemont in France on 31 May. He was buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France - Grave VII.B.50. ‘Tim’ Ware (Old Geelong Grammarian, who died in the Spanish Influenza epidemic in February 1919) wrote to his parents in September 1918:
'It is hard luck that Dave Fenton is coming away, and I admire his Father for letting him do as he pleases in the matter, but if he sticks to the Flying Corps and does not take his com and start flying he is pretty safe.' He died aged 47 years, in Hamilton, Victoria on 3 April 1944, after suffering a long term illness.
