FREEMAN, Arthur William (1907-1979)


Arthur Freeman had been a student at Miss Harris’ School prior to attending Geelong College from 12 February 1918 to December 1923. Born on 3 March 1907, he was the only child of William Croker Freeman (1865-1937) and his wife Matilda Sophia nee Boswarrick to attend the College. The family were resident at 14 Victoria Terrace, Western Beach at the time of his enrolment.

In 1934, Arthur married Hilda Lilian nee Elvish (1910-1996), the daughter of Arthur Charles Elvish and Lilian Mabel nee Collins.

Arthur, late of 36 Mercer Parade, Newtown, died on 12 September 1979. Hilda died on 11 September 1996.

Known as a ‘gentleman plumber’ he provided plumbing services to the School for a great many years. The Principal’s private residence is named Freeman House in his memory.
