G W C EWAN CUP

G W C EWAN CUP

The G W C Ewan Cup was an annual sporting prize awarded to the winner of the Under 16 Athletics Championship.

It was known as the 'Elgar Opie Memorial Cup' to 1939 and named after Elgar Watts Opie (1893-1917) a casualty of World War I. From 1940 to 1945 it was known as the 'John Heath Cup. From 1946, it was named after George William Carruthers Ewan OAM (1927-2005), a notable athlete at school, who won this award in 1942 and broke the High Jump record at 6ft 1 3/4 ins in 1945.
