The Geelong College Glee Club evolved from the College Dramatic Club and was established in 1934. It presented its first musical performance The Monastery in 1935 under the Directorship of teachers Lester, Ipsen and Wilson. The Glee Club was principally known for its production of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas under the direction of Georgie Logie-Smith commencing with Trial by Jury in 1938 and the final Glee Club performance of The Gondoliers in 1958. Only in 1948, with the production of Merrie England by A Woodman, while George Logie-Smith was overseas, did the Glee Club diverge from Gilbert and Sullivan. Several Glee Club re-unions have been held since.
