GRIGG, Donald Douglas (1883-1950)
He was born 21 September 1883, the third of 10 children of Thomas Tobias Grigg and Katherine Douglas nee Williamson, of Drysdale. He was a member of the Drysdale Rifle Club when he enlisted (No 85A) in the AIF, 1st General Hospital Reinforcements, 2nd Field Ambulance, on 7 April 1915. He embarked from Melbourne on 18 June 1915 on RMS Mooltan. He served on Gallipoli and in France, where he was buried and suffered the effects of a gas attack in September 1917. He was evacuated to the County of Middlesex War Hospital on 23 September 1917. Grigg returned to Australia, on Berrima embarking on 2 January 1919.
He lost two cousins during the Great War, the sons of Robert Humphrey and Amelia Grigg, of Geelong. They were Private Arthur James Grigg, 58 Battalion, who died on 13 May 1917 at 3rd CCS of wounds sustained the day before, and is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, France, Grave V.B.3 and Lieutenant Corporal Philip George Frederick Grigg, 23 Battalion, killed in action on 3 July 1916, and buried in Ration Farm Military Cemetery, La Chapelle d’Armentieres, Grave I.J.12.
He died at Camden, NSW in December 1950.
