HEARNE, Dr Kenneth Goodall (1882-1958)Kenneth Hearne was born on the 11 April 1882, the son of William Goodall Hearne, a manufacturing Chemist, and Amelia Louise nee Sykes. Kenneth was enrolled as a day student at Geelong College on 6 June 1899. His address at enrolment was Yarra St, Geelong.
After leaving school Kenneth studied Medicine at Melbourne University and furthered his education in Edinburgh. In 1911, he was living in London and is listed in the Census of England, 1911 as a medical student. Kenneth volunteered in England for the Border Regiment and, like his brother, William, was at Gallipoli.
After the war he practised at Arncliffe, New South Wales.
His obituary in
Pegasus of December 1958 is a follows;
'
Dr K G Hearne was 76 when he died earlier this year. After completing his education at Geelong College, he travelled overseas and graduated as MB ChB at Edinburgh University in 1911. He later gained his MD degree. During the First World War, Dr Hearne served with the Royal Australian Medical Corps (RAMC), and participated in the Gallipoli and Mesopotamia campaigns. Returning to Sydney he entered into a medical practice in which he remained until 1953, and spent much time working for the Red Cross Society and the Boy Scout movement '
He died on 17 May 1958 in Sydney.
His older brother,
Colonel William Weston Hearne DSO (1871-1917) DSO was killed on 17 October 1917.
