Joseph Henry Hewison, born on 4 February 1867, local government councillor, first entered the School as a day student on 14 February 1882, matriculating in 1882. He played for the School 1st Football XVIII and was Dux of the School in 1883 and 1884. At the time of his enrolment his address was Upper Hope St, Geelong West.

After taking his MA and LLB degrees at Melbourne University he returned to Geelong where he practised as a solicitor. Eventually he moved to Melbourne becoming a councillor of the City of St Kilda in 1910 and Mayor of St Kilda in 1914 and 1915. He was also an active member of the Australian Natives Association (ANA) of which he was Chief-President in 1915 and 1916. In 1922 he was elected President of the OGCA his term of which was cut short by his unexpected death. He died on 2 August 1923.

Pegasus in August 1923 wrote of his death: ' Mr. Hewison - a native of Geelong entered the College in 1881. He matriculated in 1882, and was Dux of the school in 1883 and 1884. After taking his M.A. and LL.B. degrees at the Melbourne University, he returned to Geelong, and practised there as a solicitor for some time.

Subsequently he removed to Melbourne, where he took a prominent part in public life. He entered the St. Kilda Council in 1910, and was Mayor of St Kilda in 1914 and 1915. He was also an active member of the Australian Native' Association, and occupied the position of Chief-President in 1915 and 1916.

He was elected President of the Old Geelong Collegians' Association last May. By his death the Association suffers a severe loss. The Committee of the Association, at a special meeting, passed a resolution expressing deep regret at the suddden death of the President, Mr. J. H. Hewison, M.A., LL.B., and conveying to his bereaved family sincere sympathy in their loss.

His brother, Benjamin Hewison (1875-1938), was also educated at Geelong College.
