HILL, John Edward Henry (1931-2018)


John Hill, the son of W H Hill, first attended Benalla State School before becoming a boarder at Geelong College from 1944 to 1950. He was a talented sportsman, Boys Under 14 Swimming Champion in 1945, vice-captain of the 2nd XI Cricket Team in 1948, member of the 1st Football Team from 1948 to 1950, the Athletics Team from 1948 to 1950, the Relay Team in 1948 and 1949 and the 1st Cricket XI in 1949 and 1950. His all-round athletic performance was rewarded with the Geelong College Cup in 1949. He was also a School Prefect, a Cadet Corps corporal and House Captain of Shannon in 1950.

John Hill donated the W H Hill Memorial Cricket Trophy for best all-round cricket performance in 1947 in memory of his father.

He died at Dalby, Queensland, ged 87 years, on 9 December 2018.
