ILLINGWORTH, John Stanley (1918-2004)John Stanley Illingworth was born on 17 July 1918 at Casterton, elder son of John and Catherine nee Evans. He was a day student at Geelong College from 10 February 1932 to December 1934. He had previously attended Geelong High School and his address at enrolment was 269 Malop St, Geelong. At College, he was a member of Morrison House and the 2nd Cricket XI of 1934.
During World War II, he enlisted (No. VX100667) on 26 July 1942 to serve in 23rd Australian Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery in New Guinea (December 1941 - November 1943, and January - April 1944). He was discharged at war's end on 31 October 1945.
On 29 April 1944 at Yarra Street Methodist Church, Geelong, he married Gwenneth Ivy Webster, only daughter of George Arthur Webster and Clarice Ivy nee Sheehan of 'Coolagh', Geelong. 'Stan' practised as an accountant with David Illingworth Accountants. He was also an honorary Treasurer of the Uniting Church City Parish, the Geelong and Western District Benevolent Association and Geelong West Rotary Club from 1979 to 1989.
He died on 6 June 2004.
His brother, Evan Illingworth (1922-2011); and sons, Graham Bruce Illingworth; and
Peter John Illingworth (1945-2018); were also educated at Geelong College.
